Dubai’s Burj Khalifa to lose world's tallest building title to Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Tower

21:23, May 9

The Jeddah Tower, which is under construction in Saudi Arabia, is set to eclipse the iconic Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai and become the tallest building in the world.

This skyscraper will be more than 1 km high and will house corporate offices, residential buildings, and hotels, reports Architectural Digest.

Furthermore, Jeddah Tower, also known as the Kingdom Tower, will be home to the world's tallest observatory.

Another notable feature of this skyscraper is its dynamic elevator that will operate inside this structure at a speed of 10 meters per second.

Construction of this skyscraper began in 2013, but was suspended in 2018 after Bakr bin Laden, Osama bin Laden's half-brother and president of contractor BinLaden Group, was arrested in Saudi Arabia, from 2017 to 2019. And the COVID-19 pandemic has caused further delays

But in September 2023, it was announced that construction on the building had resumed.

The project, which is estimated to cost $1.2 billion, will be the centerpiece of a $20 billion mixed-use district called Jeddah Economic City, located on the Red Sea coast.
