Wine story: Spring selection of Armenian wines for women

20:09, March 22

The start of the spring season is a great opportunity to win the hearts of the women in your lives, especially during the women’s one-month “holiday” that begins on March 8 and continues until April 7. Instead of traditional flower bouquets or chocolate boxes, News.am STYLE offers something truly delicate and unique. Why not please the ladies with a selection of fine Armenian wines? Especially for you, we have prepared a selection of some exquisite wines that will make a great gift, or just brighten up a spring evening.

Trinity 6100 Red

трини.jpg (50 KB)

A red still wine made from the local Armenian Areni Noir grape, which perfectly reflects the unique characteristics of the terrain of the Vayots Dzor Province, which is characterized by volcanic soil with a high content of sand and gravel and a continental climate with 250 sunny days per year. Before bottling, this wine is stored in Caucasian oak barrels for six months, thanks to which the aged Areni acquires a delicate fruity aroma with notes of ripe red berries, hints of roasted caramel, and a gentle caress of vanilla. Ripe blackberry and sweet spice flavors dominate, the wine's body is dense and perfectly balanced, with velvety tannins and a lingering woody aftertaste. We recommend enjoying it with juicy red meat—preferably lamb, with pasta with a strong or spicy sauce, or with an assortment of soft cheeses.

Arkuri NOA Rose

A delicate floral rosé still wine made from local Armenian Areni grapes directly embodies the warm, blooming spring. The grapes used as raw material for making this wine grow at an altitude of 850 to 1,850 meters above sea level, and the average age of the vines is 17 to 20 years. The wine's fresh, balanced aroma is a combination of strawberry, raspberry, cherry, and wild flower notes. A wine with hints of fruit and berries, mild acidity, and a stable aftertaste. It goes well with fish, easy-to-digest salads, and seafood.

Hogi White

Translated from Armenian, Hogi means “soul,” and the taste of this wine can be equated with the embodiment of the soul of a bright and romantic woman. Made from the Armenian Voskehat geapes, it is pale lemon-colored, with a hint of cider, with the aroma of pear and freshly cut grass. It has a slight bitterness from the fruit stone, the aftertaste is brief, but even one sip gives the sparkle of spring. We recommend drinking this wine with rolls and sushi, grilled fish, or mashed soup.

Keush Extra Brut Rose

кюш.jpg (62 KB)

An elegant pink sparkling wine made from local Armenian Areni grapes using the traditional method, secondary fermentation in bottles, and aging on lees for at least 24 months. The walnut in this combination has an enchanting aroma, combined with soft creaminess and the taste of freshly baked brioche, not wine, but cake. The bubbles are so intense and at the same time so smooth that it feels like a thick mash in your mouth, the aftertaste is long and persistent, with berry bitterness. If you prefer a light dinner with cold appetizers, oysters or sweet desserts, Keush will become your irreplaceable companion for that evening.

Ariats Kakhani Sweet Red Reserve

Sweets lovers will definitely appreciate this wine, as it is indeed a sweet nectar made with the ancient Armenian "Kakhan" technology from Areni and other local red grape varieties. Powerful and multi-layered, filled with a blend of prunes, cherries, berry jam, and strong spices. The subtle aroma of roasted coffee beans, vanilla, and almond gives a special charm to this fiery bunch. The taste is a fusion of the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity, and the soft tannins maintain a long aftertaste, delivering hints of chocolate and vanilla with every sip. We recommend pairing this wine with creamy desserts, dark chocolate, soft cheeses, or enjoying it as a digestive, so to speak, as a dessert.
