Prince Harry and Meghan Markle named his son Archie after his former Army commanding officer – the man who got him deployed in Afghanistan, The Sun reported.
Harry’s army friends argue that Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is named after the former commander of the prince. The 41-year-old Tom Archer-Burton, known as Archie, helped him a lot, and their friendship has lasted for over ten years.
In 2007, Harry was going to go to war in Iraq for six months, like all of his friends and colleagues. But the royal family could not allow such a danger to a possible heir to the throne. After threatening to quit the Army, it was Archie who convinced him to stay on and later helped secure a secret deal to keep his deployment to the battle zone out of the media.
“Archie convinced Harry to stay in the Army and I’m delighted that Harry has named his son after someone who played such an important role in his life. The Harry we see today is so different from the angry, frustrated royal we could have seen had it not been for an officer who calmed him down at a point in his life when he could well have given up on his military career,” one commentator noted.
After completing his military service, Harry continued to communicate with Tom. They traveled together in Africa and participated in the Burnaby Blue charity mission to rebuild a school in Lesotho. Archer-Burton is familiar with many members of the royal family. He became friends with Meghan and, of course, was invited to their wedding.
