Asia's richest man spends more than $100,000 on 2 olive trees because they bring good luck

16:21, February 29

The rich have their own quirks. Asia's richest man, Mukesh Ambani, worth an estimated $113 billion, spent more than $100,000 on two olive trees because they bring good luck.

At the end of 2021, the tycoon decided to purchase two rare olive trees, ranging from 170 to 200 years old, for his sprawling estate in Jamnagar. The ultra-expensive olive trees were imported from Spain as this variety is not grown in India. After the olive trees were imported from Spain, they were transported by truck to a nursery over 1,800 km away, The Hindu reported. Carefully packaged in plastic bags and maintained at a speed of no more than 30 km/h, the trees covered this distance in five days.

At Gowthami Nursery in Andhra Pradesh, the olive trees were cared for two years by a dedicated team of six people before they reached their final destination in Jamnagar. The team that grew them had to ensure optimal soil conditions and make sure the trees didn't grow more than 12 feet tall.

According to Indian media, the cost of transporting the olive trees was $4,000, but it is justified as each tree is worth a whopping $60,000 and provides the billionaire businessman with endless luck.
